When Neurological Rehabilitation Is Needed

A neurological disorder may be due to an injury to the brain or spinal cord, a disease or health event, and can cause physical impairments and disabilities. A neurological rehabilitation program helps patients with the nervous system and neurological disorders to improve function, regain mobility, regain strength, and build endurance. We strive to help our patients achieve their highest level of function with our Inpatient Neuro Rehab Services.

Impact from Neurological Disorders

There are many benefits to neurological rehabilitation. Every patient situation is different, but common conditions that neurological rehabilitation can help treat include:

  • Muscle weakness

  • Difficulty walking

  • Difficulty swallowing

  • Difficulty speaking

  • Problems with memory and cognitive function

  • Vision issues

  • Pain

If you have any limited neurological functions stemming from a neurological disorder or disease such as Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis (MS), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease), acute inpatient rehabilitation can help.

Treatment

The goal of neurological rehabilitation is to enhance the patient's quality of life, physically and emotionally. Following your initial evaluation, our rehab care team will work with you to develop an individualized plan of care to maximize the outcome of your neuro rehab. By having access to specialists, nurses, and therapists around the clock, patients get the most out of their stay at Indianapolis Rehab Hospital. Every program is customized to every individual patient's needs. Physical therapy will play an important role in the life of the patient while at a rehab hospital. The physical therapist will tailor the rehab treatments to each patient depending on their neurological disorder and the severity of the condition. The therapy team may determine that additional treatments are also needed to improve the patient's function. A few examples are:

  • Speech Therapy (speaking, writing, swallowing, cognitive/thinking)

  • Bladder and bowel retraining

  • Occupational Therapy

  • Education and counseling

  • Pain management

Improved Outcomes and Quality of Life

We strive to set goals with you and your family to increase your quality of life back in your own environment. Some of these outcomes are listed below:

  • Improving gait training

  • Increasing the safety of transfers and mobility

  • Providing balance training

  • Improve motor planning and control

  • Deceasing spasticity and tone

In addition, our team helps you learn how to use any equipment that will be required for you to return to your home. Finally, our hospital team provides resources and education to you and your loved ones during your time in our rehab hospital.

My first symptoms of ALS occurred in 2014, but was diagnosed in 2016. I had severe symptoms ranging from shortness of breath, balance problems, couldn't walk without a walker or a power chair, i had difficulty swallowing and fatigue. I was given medications which helped but only for a short burst of time, then I decided to try alternative measures and began on ALS Formula treatment from Tree of Life Health clinic. It has made a tremendous difference for me (Visit w w w. treeoflifeherbalclinic .com ). I had improved walking balance, increased appetite, muscle strength, improved eyesight and others. ]

I was diagnosed with bulbar ALS in the summer of 2019; My initial symptoms were quite noticeable. I first experienced weakness in my right arm and my speech and swallowing abilities were profoundly affected. The Rilutek (riluzole) did very little to help me. The medical team at the ALS clinic did even less. My decline was rapid and devastating.if it were not for the sensitive care and attention of my primary physician I would have been deceased,There has been little if any progress in finding a cure or reliable treatment. Acupuncture eased my anxiety a bit. Our primary physician recommended me to www. kycuyuhealthclinic. com and their amazing ALS treatment. My symptoms including muscle weakness, slurred speech and difficulty swallowing…
